Philpott and family lived in 1900 and 1910--and found nine or ten Philpott families. Of these, only two had the husband and wife b. in MS and GA, and of the two, only one had a son of the right age with a name starting with aitch--Henry. I believe this person may be our Holder, and if this is true, then his parents are listed as Thomas (33) and Mary C. (28) Philpot, and his siblings (all sisters) as Mary H. (9), Mimei? F. (7), Susan S. (5), and Sarah E. (5 mos.).]

Loreatha R. Haggerton
CARLSBAD A funeral for Loreatha R. "Dean" Haggerton, 84, of Texas Street, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at West Funeral Home Chapel with Owen Morrow, chaplain of Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest-Northgate Unit, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Friends may call 1-8 p.m. today at West Funeral Home.
Mrs. Haggerton died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest-Northgate Unit.
West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Loreatha "Dean" Philpott Haggerton was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Tell, Texas, to Holder and Lavada Williford Philpott. She was raised and educated in Texas.
Dean moved to New Mexico as a teenager, where she met Horace B. "H. B." Haggerton. They were married Feb. 25, 1938, in Roswell.
Dean was a loving wife and mother and thoroughly enjoyed helping other people. For years, she did sewing for the public. Dean also loved playing bingo.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, H.B.; and three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by sons, Jerry Haggerton of High Rolls, Art Haggerton of Las Cruces and Roy Haggerton and wife, Sandy, of Carlsbad; daughters, Utana Allen of Roswell and Louwana Curren and husband, Larry, of Bellevue, Neb.; and nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

I have not heard the names that you have mentioned, but I have heard family stories of our name being changed from something resembling the Hagedorn you mentioned. Although I was told by a woman from Ireland that that is the wrong name and it is almost unpronounceable in modern english. Thus the change to Haggerton before the family left Ireland. I am Ron Haggerton, as is my father. His father is Albert Wideman Haggerton, born in Arkansas after 1920, I think. His parents were David Albert Haggerton and Martha Elizabeth Savage. David Haggerton's parents were Adam and Nancy Haggerton, who I suspect from the type of photograph I have of them, lived very near the civil war era. I have also found links to Charlie and a Willie Haggerton, somewhere near Corpus Christi Texas.
