First Contact:

The name of David Woolley appears in the index to a Civil War era photo album originally belonging to the Gwins of Cahaba in Dallas Co., Alabama.  The photos in the album were replaced--or at best redistributed--at some later time, and no photo has as yet been matched to this name.  So far, we have absolutely no evidence to show that we are even remotely related to any Woolleys.  The mystery remained--until we received this update which may be the answer:

Aha!  Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Tinney Hill of Wilsonville sent me some (unclear) copies of old photos of Rev. and Mrs. David Woolley of Wilsonville and their children!  She wrote:

"Rev. David Z. Woolley, Wilsonville, Ala., Baptist Church.  I believe the wife's name was Mary.  He was from Montevello, Ala., and  the line went back to Bibb Co., Ala.  He and she were loved by everyone.  Love,  Mary Elizabeth Hill"

Second contact:

I collect vintage dip pen nibs, and the name G. W. Woolley appears in my collection lithographed on each of three boxes of nibs manufactured in Philadelphia, and on each nib is the patent date of Dec. 4, 1860.

Third contact:

In 2007, while visiting in Walsh, (Baca Co.) Colorado, at the 40th anniversary festivities of the Walsh Baptist Church, I noticed the name Woolley on a participant's name tag.  Inquiring as to the wearer's lineage in hopes of finding a clue to David Woolley's identity, I was sent to the home of another local resident, sister to the participant (and sister-in-law to my host!), who directed me to my fourth contact, but first showed me the following information she had gotten from an unknown Woolley inquirer in Idaho.  She could make no connection to this inquirer, but I copied the information and transcribe it here:

I have a Benjamin Woolley born on 27 Apr 1792 and died in Perry County, Illinois on 18 Sep 1848. He was a Methodist minister and was married to Nancy (Long?). Could he be one of your Woolleys?

Susan, do you know if your Woolley was related to a James W. Woolley who was born in Tom's River 1797 and md. in Hamilton Co., OH, 1820 to Rachel Guthrie. They then moved to Howard Co., IN by way of Orange Co., IN where most of their children were born.

You wrote that your James Woolley came from Tom's River. I have a Fannie Woolley of Shrewsbury Twp (Monmouth Co., NJ). Could there be a connection? She married William Worrell 1818.

Anybody know anything about the burial place of Zacheous Woolley and/or his wife Elizabeth Long? Both of them died in Bibb Co. Alabama. Zacheous died in 1857 and Elizabeth died in 1865.

Comments: Just visted your page on the Woolleys. I know that my father (Harvie O. Woolley, Jr.) and his mother and farther (Harvie O. and Rose Woolley) hailed from Bibb County, Alabama. The person who was looking for gravesites of the Woolley family should vist the graveyard in Six Mile (the town of Six Mile is located in Bibb County). The graveyard is or was located next to a church. I cannot remember the name of the church. We also had kin in the town of Montevallo.

I believe I have the answer as to the parentage of Joseph Woolley in your "All things Woolley" format.

Tylee Woolley who married Sarah Reed are the parents of this mysterious Joseph Woolley.

In fact, until I arrived at your website, I did not know very much about Joseph except that he married, and I had just two children listed--Cinderella J. Woolley and Zebulon Woolley--and had no information whatsoever about Zebulon and only the misspelled surname for Cinderella's husband, but now I am on the right track as to whom she married.

The site does confuse me a bit, because I am not clear as to your numbering system--it confuses me a bit--so if you would not mind explaining your numbering system a bit further, then it would help me to continue with this Woolley research.

Tylee Woolley started out in Monmouth Co., NJ, and he moved on to Ohio where he met his future bride, Sarah Reed, and they had 8 children--as far as I know from doing over 20 years worth of research.

I hope this helps to shed some light on the mysterious Joseph Woolley.
