I do not have specific information about your Alice Neeson. However, there was a Neeson family in the Randalstown, County Antrim area of Northern Ireland in the mid-19th century. That might be a place to start.

David -

Based on what you said this is probably not the same person, but... Alice Neeson died in Philadelphia in 1917 at the age of 92, born 1825 in Ireland. I have no proof but I believe she was the mother of Peter Joseph Neeson. Peter was christened in Lysan, County Tyrone in Ireland on October 8, 1844. This information is taken off of a Cemetary Lot deed and includes partial information on the people buried in the plot. I can be reached at e-mail = marla.neeson@phila.gov

Marla,
My gr-grandmother, Alice Neason, was born in Montgomery Co., PA in 1850. After she married Edward Wendell they moved to Phila. I think she is buried in St. Dennis' Cemetary in Ardmore, PA but have not been able to verify. Can you tell me what cemetary records you refer to in your message? Their may be a family connection. Her parents, John and Mary Neason, were born in Ireland about 1815 and 1816. I never did find out where. John is listed as a laborer in the 1850 Census and by address appears to have worked at Haverford College. I can be reached at pawlish@msn.com Hope we find a connection. Joan

Joan -
Your "Neason" is spelled differently than our
"Neeson", so I'm going to guess they are not
related. The cemetary records are from the
New Cathedral cemetary in north Philadelphia.

Marla,
I have seen my Alice Neason's name spelt both ways and I am not sure which is correct. It was spelt with an "a" in the Montgomery County Census records, but that could have been misread. Do you know if John and Mary Neeson are in the family plot you mentioned? They had seven children who were all born in PA. They start showing up in the census in 1850 and it says they were born in Ireland. John must have died before 1880 because only Mary and three of her children (still living at home our mentioned in 1880). Thanks, Joan

Marla Neeson  (View posts) Posted: 27 Mar 2000 7:14AM

Joan - Those in the plot are:
Alice Neeson (1917), Peter Neeson (1932),
Frances Neeson (1930, wife of Peter) and
Ann Connell (no date). There may be some
relationship. Do you know where in Ireland
John and Mary Neeson came from? Peter Neeson
came from County Tyrone.

Hi Ivan - Couldn't resist sending a message to you as I had Neeson's living in the Antrim and Crumlin area way back in the 1860's. My greatgrandfather was James Neeson. a shoemaker, son of William Neeson and Eliz. Stewart Neeson. He married Sarah Bickerstaff and they emigrated to Chicago in 1865. Wonder if there are any Neeson's of this family still living in the area. Would you happen to know?

Hello Ivan I thought that I sent you a message but can't find it.
I have just come back from a trip which included Ireland and found that there are no Neesons of my faith anf family - Horace Descendants that I could find in the Randalstown and surrounding areas. But that doesn't mean that there aren't any!!
It seems that the males died without issue but I am still hopeful of finding some distant cousin out there!!
Hope that we can keep in touch.
Best wishes from Carlene

I visited Randalstown in August 200 but had no luck tracking down any of his descendants.
Perhaps your are one of them!?!?

Hi!!!
I'm just so thrilled to see your message .
If I am right we are distant cousins.!
I believe that your Dr, Horace was the son of Dr. Horace Neeson ,Physician to the Earl of O'Neill at Shanescastle. N.Ireland.
My ancestor was John Neeson who came to Australia in the 1850's and was also a son of Dr. Horace Neeson of Randalstown.
Am I on the right track?
P>If so could we swap information?

Thanks - Cousin Carlene

Ivan;
I am a distant cousin to Kelly and I know our Neesons are also from Belfast. Do you know of any of the Neesons who may have gone to Howwood,Scotland in the 1800-1900's? We just found a HUGHES family member , whom either of us knew exsisted and he said he knew there was a NEESON family who he thinks came from Co.Antrim. I am the Susan Hatton side of the family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Blessings Upon You,

The spelling of NEESON  New

sar5r     (View posts) Posted: 6 Feb 2001 4:54AM

Edited: 10 Jul 2001 6:26PM

Don't be so quick to dismiss a possible link to your line of NEESONs or any other surname due to the spelling.Back in the 1700,1800 and even the 1900's, it was not uncommon if one couldn't read or write let alone spell correctly. So everything was pretty much a guessing game then. When our ancestors came over from Ireland or whereever, the people writing their names down , sometimes couldn't understand what they were saying due to the Irish brough and so they just guess at the spelling. It is possible for one NEESON to have ended up as NEASON. All I'm saying is think about this.

Jane Mulholland born 14, May 1868 was the daughter of Charles Rose Mulholland, Watercloney. John and Jane had a daughter Rose born in April 1887 and the three of them emigrated into the US in 1888. I have been trying to find out what port they left from or ship name and any relatives that were left behind in Ireland in the Ahoghill area. John (of John Catherine) had other siblings what I have are sister's Sarah born 29 Sept 1850, Margaret born 20 Febr 1853 and a brother Daniel born 29 Sept 1855. That is where the link stops. I have all the info once they got to the US and everything about the family from there. Any ideas on how I can connect with the relatives in Ireland??? Any help would be most appreciated. I live in the state of Pennsylvania and would love to hear from you. Will be anxiously be awaiting a reply from you. My email is: USAFnicknmargie@worldnet.att.net

Rodney, this is your cousin, Susan. I have tried to dabble in this in my free time. Carlene, from Australia, may be a distant cousin of ours. Do you have any detailed info? I'd like to compare it what little I have.

My ancestors left Crumlin area in 1870's to live near London. Dr Andrew Neeson (GP in Aghalee, as was his father) was educated at Glasgow university, I have his graduation certificate. He was my great, great grandfather, and came to England with his mother, Anna who was well into her nineties when she died in 1940.

I live in Devon, England near my father (Horace Ivor) who is 84.

Any other info on this line, please get in touch

Hello!
I have been searching for information regarding my great great Grandfather Dr. Horace Neeson B1780"s? and died in 1856 in Randalstown where he practised medicine. He was also the Physician to the Earl of Shanescastle during that time. Both in Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland.
Is 'your' Dr. Andrew Neeson one of Dr. Horace's sons? If so we are cousins!!!
Please email me if you think we are as I would love to swap information.
Thanks - Carlene (Melbourne, Australia)

Does any-one have any info on a Barnie Neeson who was a publican in ,i think, Ballymena Ireland.
His wife ,i'm sure, was a great auntie of mine called Kittie or Kitty.
There should be a link to the name Hammill.

Hi Margie,
Did you have a relative, John Neeson, living in Camden NJ in 1911? Just found my grandfathers record at Ellis Island, and he lists John Neeson as person who is going to live with. Grandfather's name was James Haggarty, originally from Letterkenney, but moved to Dumbarton, Scotland, and left for America from there. Anything sound familiar?
Thanks.

May I suggest you read Liam Neeson's biography, the actor. His father's name was Barney and mother's name was Kitty. The family lived and worked in Ballymena. "Liam" is a short form of "William". I recently read this information and hopes it helps you.

Hi Sharon,
OH bless you! You have confirmed what I had been told by family that my grgranddad had 5 children.
I know this posting is an old one but I just found it and was thrilled to finally find a possible clue to my elusive gr grandfather Patrick Neeson. The only things I know from family are that he may have been born around 1870, in Antrim Ireland, died in 1937, he had brothers George, John, Thomas and possibly a Hugh(es). He was married to Margaret (Maggie) Ann Noble. Patrick and Margaret Ann had at least 4 children Gord, Annie, George and Dempsey. Any information you could provide would be fabulous!

Anyway just interested to know if we have any further information regarding the Neesons and proof of our 'kinship'???????
Talk soon I hope.

Hi Ivan,
I saw this post, and wondered if you are still located near Randalstown?
I am trying to trace my GGG Grandfather John Neeson and his family. We believe he was born in or around Randalstown c.1818. I cant find out any more about his family. Were there a lot of Neeson's in the Randalstown/Millstown area, in the early 19th century?
Thanks so much for your time,

Edward Wendell (Windle) born 1845 Ireland

Seeking Information about my g-grandfather, Edward Wendell formerly spelt Windle in Ireland. He was born in Co. Limerick, around 1845. He settled in Philadelpia, PA after the Civil War. He married Alice Neason in 1872 and his brother John married her sister Christina. Edward and Alice Wendell had seven children: Edward, Charles, Herbert, John, Alice, Christina and I think Mary. Have not been able to find his birth record or the name of his parents. I'd be very grateful for suggestions. He died in Philadelphia in the late 1920's.
