The following is from the web page "Regimental Histories of Tennessee Units During the
War of 1812"
located at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/1812reg.htm
COLONEL JOHN WILLIAMS
DESIGNATION: Mounted Volunteers of
East Tennessee
DATES: December 1812 - March 1813
MEN MOSTLY FROM: Blount, Grainger,
Knox, and Washington Counties
CAPTAINS: Samuel Bunch, David Vance,
William Walker.
BRIEF HISTORY:
While the volunteers under Andrew Jackson were gathering at Nashville
for their expedition to the Natchez region, a similar gathering was
taking place in Knoxville. Their destination was the territory of
East Florida, under the domain of Spain, and the leader of the
expedition was John Williams of Knox County.
Williams, along with approximately 250 volunteers,
marched to East Florida to join with the combined forces of U.S. troops
and Georgia "patriots" to "liberate" this region from Spanish
control. Ostensibly, the expedition was raised to eliminate the
threat of marauding Creeks and Seminoles on the borders of Georgia.
Like Jackson's Natchez Expedition, the men of the
Florida Expedition were considered to be from the finest families of
the region and, like the Natchez Expedition, the excursion into Florida
accomplished little. Some Creek villages were destroyed, and the
Tennessee volunteers suffered only one casualty. John Williams
later became colonel of the 39th U.S. Infantry, a unit instrumental in
Jackson's victory at Horseshoe Bend (27 March 1814).

John Myers recorded in his Bible that he was born on Oct. 26 1792 and
said he was reared in Horse Creek Green Co. Tn. He married in that
county Jane Dunn, daughter of Daniel Dunn and his wife Rhoda ? Jane was
born on Oct 20 1792, and her birth date is recorded in her father's
Bible, her husband's Bible and on her tombstone in the Myers Cemetry in
Townsend, Tn.
The Headrick, Myers and Dunn families moved as a group to Blount Co.
Tn. about 1821. Dates of their removal vary because some of them
retained land in Greene Co. Tn. and were back and forth for a number of
years. The Headricks & Myers were of German extraction.
In Aug.1929 the John Myers Bible was in the possession of his Fancher
granddaughters. It was Copied by Etta Slatery that year.
John Myers & his wife had three children when they moved to Blount
Co. They moved lock stock & barrel. Among their household goods was
a spinning wheel made by Jacob Lindsay in 1818 which by 1929 was in the
Fancher home. John Myers' rifle was given to his son John, and he in
turn gave it to his grandson John. It was reported to be in the
possession of a descendant also named "John Myers" who lives in Blount
Co at this time . The author "Olga Edwards" has a powder horn
that belonged to John Myers . It is actually a gourd in which the
powder was carried. Age has Colored it a rich brown and it is polished
from years of usage.
The 1830 1840 1850 census of Blount Co. that John Myers and his family
. He was dead by 1860 and his widow Jane Dunn was living with their
youngest daughter Susan Tipton in Townsend in Tuckaleechee

John, in your notes for the census of 20 January 1920,
you have listed that James Moore's wife must have been deceased at this
time, as she was not listed in the census. The true fact is that
she left her husband and three children; no one really knows for sure
where she went, but she came back later when my grandfather "Jack E.
Moore" was around 17 or 18 and another child, don't remember his age
right off but it is listed in my files and his name was Willie Oscar
"Moore"; though none believed he was truly a child of James W. Moore's,
"Jim" always treated him as his own. This is from my grandmother
who was the wife of Jack E. Moore, son of Jim "James" W. Moore. Rhonda

*[John M. Gwin Note: I understand from Cousin Rhonda that these three
wives were married to W. M. Walker at the same time as each other,
making it impossible to discover their children's birth order without
knowing their birth dates. Having now found those children in the
various censuses, I have listed them in what I believe to be their
correct birth order yet below their respective mothers.]

clearly the person reported to us by Rhonda Harrill Jones. Mary reports
here that she has borne 13 children, only six of whom are living in
1900. But this report will definitely allow us to get a correct birth
order for at least these six. At this time, we can only offer
speculation as to the order in which the other seven were born.

Living
next door to this family is a "Kaylor" family who could be this Nancy's
grandparents, parents, and siblings. The eldest is George Kaylor, age
85. However, there are other Caylors living on the other side of this
Walker family, so Nancy's parents and siblings could be there as well.
We'll perhaps learn which family is which by looking in the 1850 census.

This is
Mary Ann's son Jack and his three kids. We earlier had assumed that his
wife--their mother--was deceased, and that perhaps she died in
chidbirth with Joseph B. But Cousin Rhonda Jones
has corrected that erroneous assumption of mine. She writes:
John, in
your notes for the census
of 20 January 1920, you have
listed that James Moore's wife must have been deceased at this time, as
she was not listed in the census. The true fact is that she left
her husband and three children; no one really knows for sure where she
went, but she came back later when my grandfather "Jack E. Moore" was
around 17 or 18 and another child, don't remember his age right off but
it is listed in my files and his name was Willie Oscar "Moore"; though
none believed he was truly a child of James W. Moore's, "Jim" always
treated him as his own. This is from my grandmother who was the
wife of Jack E. Moore, son of Jim "James" W. Moore.

Carl was not reported with Luther in the 1900 census; perhaps someone
else was keeping him. From their ages in 1910, I'd say these boys were
twins; further, there appears to be no sign of a married father. But
now, looking at Carl's age in the 1920 census, perhaps it was the 1910
enumerator who erred--maybe Carl's age then should've been 5, not 12.]

[Celia
Jean Smith Walker Note: Giles Daniel "Dan" Walker was a
brother to William Wiley Walker. “Uncle Dan” was thus a
granduncle to my husband, Ronald William Walker. Uncle Dan served
honorably in World War I. My husband remembers visiting the
Walker Sisters (his great aunts) at their cabin at Little Greenbriar,
and I have a few photos. When the last sister died, Uncle Dan was
their last surviving sibling. Family history has it that he took
what he wanted from their cabin, piled the remainder in the yard out
front, and lit a large bonfire to keep it from going to the National
Park Service, who had bought the homestead and its contents from the
Walker Sisters earlier but allowed them to live there. Blankets
and quilts exist that were woven on the loom he burned.
Above, left to
right: graves of John N. Walker's family in the Mattox
Family Cemetery, Wear's Cove, Sevier Co., TN; and grave closeups of
John N. Walker and wife, M. J. King Walker; and seven of their eleven
children: William
Wiley Walker; Margaret
J. Walker; Mary E. "Polly"
Walker; Martha A. Walker; Nancy M. Walker; Louisa S. Walker; and Hettie R. Walker. John N. "Hairy"
Walker is my 3rd cousin thrice removed, and these eleven children are
my 4th cousins twice removed.

[Lisa D. Walker Ezell
Note: Hi, I happened upon your Walker genealogy page
on a quest for my ancestors and was delighted! My
great-grandfather was "Hairy" John Walker, my grandfather was Thomas
Walker--brother to the famous five Walker Sisters. Anyway, thanks
for all of the work and effort you put into this site. It's
amazing to read about my heritage. By the way, one of the
students in my class today told me that his gg-grandfather was "Black"
Bill Walker. I think we figured out that we're 4th cousins, once
removed. Best wishes from another branch of the family
tree, Lisa D. Walker Ezzell]

According to LDS, Henry Washington Carver was born to Cornelius C.
Carver and Mary Jane Thompson. When Cornelius and Mary Jane divorced,
she was 8 months pregnant with his older sister Ellen Carver. Henry was
born 3 years after the divorce. When he was 4 years old Mary Jane
married Wesley Hasting, and I found a receipt dated 1896 from Doctor
Fouts to Henry Hasting for $3. He may have gone by both names, and the
1880 census showed him at 6 yrs old with the name of Henry C. Hasting.
Henry married Addie A. Olvey 21 Jul 1895, and the
Bible says babe born 12 Apr 1896, and Addie died 17 Apr 1896. The
receipt was for care provided to Addie by Doctor Fouts.
Henry married Sally Elizabeth Caylor 21 Feb 1897 and
had 13 children (my father John Clayton Carver the oldest son) with 2
dying as infants.
My mother told me that grandpa Henry liked to drink
(a lot) and was mean when he drank too much. He was killed in a scuffle
while under arrest for public drunk near his home at the end of Big
Gulley Road and Hwy 72. The paper said my father and one of my uncles
were trying to take Grandpa from Officer Joe Steele when Officer
Steele's revolver accidently discharged and killed Grandpa. My mother
Ellen Russell Carver (6 months pregnant with my oldest sister)
witnessed the incident.

Benjamin Franklin Walker
was somewhat of a character in my dad's memory. He was wanted by
the Texas Rangers for getting involved in a dispute over a woman and
killing the guy. Benjamin then married the woman, Henrietta Johnson,
against Barbara Dunn's wishes and she disinherited him. Benjamin
was on his way to reconcile with his mother many years later (after
living YEARS in Indian Territory, Oklahoma) when his horse fell and
broke Benjamin's leg. He died of gangrene.

From
the
names
and
ages
of
his
family,
this
is
clearly
our Giles. Living
next door are several Dunn families I assume to be his brothers:
James, 38, and Eliza;
David, 33, and Milly;
William, 48, and Mary;
Dennis, 31, and Mary;
J. D., 27, and Nancy; and a
Peter Walker, 29, and Susannah, 25 (whom I am fairly certain is a
Dunn); all of whom are b. in TN. Cohuttah today is just inside the
Georgia line, directly n. of Dalton and just east of Chattanooga, TN.
These families probably moved en masse from Blount Co., a trek of about
80 miles "as the crow flies". If they all came together, the ages and
PsOB of their children pinpoint the move around 1854.

I
believe
this
to
be
4.10--Peter
W.
Walker
and
his
wife,
Susan Dunn;
Peter is a younger brother of Sydney, and I believe that Susan/Susannah
is likely a sister of Giles. If this is true, then all their children
are double cousins.
