One of those related after-followings, a special issue of the Keeney Update, March 1987, includes a preface which numbers the generations beginning in America.  The first ancestor mentioned in that preface is unnumbered. However, I, John Gwin, in searching for a way to align ALL my lines, am renumbering them, starting with my own generation as 28. All others will go forward or backward from there. That leaves us plenty of room to work backward without having to stop and say, "Rats. I wish I'd started with ten instead of nine." And maybe we're being optimistic, but in this rapidly expanding world of the internet, who knows how soon and how far back we'll find ourselves? So 28 it is.

My name is Brian Williams.  I am seeking help finding my mother’s birth mother or her birth aunt.  My mom has been searching for over 40 years, and I’ve recently started helping out.  Her current name is Jan Henke.  Her pre-adoption name was Victoria Marie Cline.  Her mom is Barbara May Cline and aunt is Gladys Marie Cline.  Both were adopted from Missouri by Helen Gould (Keeney) Cline and Robert Theodore Cline in 1939 (According to the 1940 Census).  

Helen was the daughter of Nick Burks Keeney.  This is an extension of line 26.04-27.02 on your John S. Keeney Sr. and Hannah Catherine Frazee outline.  We know through the home my mom was adopted from that Barbara went back to Missouri, found her birth mom, and lived with her.  Barbara had my mom in 1952 when she was 18.  Barbara’s birth mother gave up my mom for adoption without her knowledge.  During our research, we found Helen Cline’s 1998 obituary.  It states that she was survived by her one daughter Marie Fought of Nitro, WV, seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.  We believe Marie Fought is Gladys Marie Cline.  Do you have any information, contacts, etc., on Gladys, her children/grandchildren, her sister Barbara, or anything regarding their birth parents names in Missouri?  Any help or direction would be appreciated.  Thank you.     Brian

            Retired Commercial Appeal newspaper production manager Adrian "Stretch" Bolin, 75, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Henry County Medical Center.
            His wife of 56 years, Mary Jane Harmon Bolin, survives.
            A memorial service was held at Bethany Baptist Church, south of Paris. Entombment is at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
            In addition to his wife, he leaves four children: Lisa (Herb) Wright of Memphis, LeeAnn (Robert) Wheat of Paris, Laura (Glen) Witham of Eads and Tom (Donna) Bolin of Olive Branch, Miss.; five grandchildren: Lou (Eboni) Wright, Brad (Carly) Wheat, Ryan Wheat, Jordan Bolin and Kelsey Bolin; and Adam, Austin and Ben Bomar, who were considered like grandsons to him.
            He was preceeded in death by his sister,  Ramona Joan Bolin Stanley, mother Ama Marguerite "Marge" Adkins Bolin and father Thurman L. Bolin.

Born Lorenzen Vern-Gagne Wright, he attended Booker T. Washington High School (Memphis), and played collegiate basketball at the University of Memphis. While with the Tigers, Wright emerged as a star player, achieving All-American status, All-Great Midwest Conference and All-Conference USA honors. He was a member of their squads that reached two consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. Selected by the Clippers during the first round (seventh overall pick) of the 1996 NBA Draft, he appeared in 779 career regular season games, scoring 6,191 points, with 4,943 rebounds.

WALTER H. KEENEY JR.

WALTER HENSON KEENEY, JR., 78, of Belle, died April 26, 1991, in General Division, CAMC, after a short illness.  He was retired from DuPont and was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County.  He was a member of Mount Juliet Methodist Church, Belle; Salina Lodge 27 AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies; and Beni-Kedem Shrine Temple.

Surviving: daughters, Adrienne Adams of Elk Grove, Ill., Joanne Daun of Naples, Fla., Kay Jones of Sarasota, Fla., Annette Kelly of Williamsville, N.Y.; brothers, David W. Keeney of Mason, Ohio, W. Paul Keeney of Belle; sister, Grace Price of Melbourne, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Fidler-Frame Funeral Home, Belle, with the Rev. Warren Faulkner officiating.  Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Montgomery Memorial Park.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

OBITUARY
John Ebon "Oscar" Hill, 84, of Witcher Creek passed away at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, on Oct. 4, 2007.

John married Syble Agnes Meadows, on May 31, 1941, in Gallipolis, Ohio, his childhood sweetheart whom he had met at the ball field in Witcher. John was a truck driver, mechanic and owner of Witcher Auto Service and Hill's Grocery. He was also an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany.  He was a member and Sunday school superintendent of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Witcher.

John was a loving husband and father and a home lover.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Syble Agnes Hill; parents, Cameron C. and Frances Holt Hill; and sisters, Anna Kathryn "Toots" Howard and baby Grace Hill.

Surviving are his sons and their wives, Charles E. and Bonnie Hill and the Rev. James Mack and Linda Hill, all of Witcher; daughters, Linda Sue Harlow of Witcher and Deborah Fontalbert and her husband, David, of Marmet; sister, Helen Hudnall of Witcher; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Fidler & Frame Funeral Home, Belle, with the Rev. James M. Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Montgomery Mem. Pk. Mausoleum, London.

Visitation will be after 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Rev. LeRoy M. Keeney

The Rev. Dr. LeRoy M. Keeney, 83, of St. Albans, died at home June 9, 2004, after a long illness.

He was retired as pastor from the Highlawn Baptist Church, having served from 1949 until 1986. Following his retirement, the Rev. Keeney served as interim minister for the First Baptist Church of Dunbar, the Main Street Baptist Church of Point Pleasant, and Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston.

He graduated from Charleston High School, attended Alderson Broaddus College, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Morris Harvey College in 1943. In 1946 he graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Alderson Broaddus College in 1973 and served as a member of its board of trustees for over ten years.

The Rev. Keeney served as president of the West Virginia Baptist Convention in 1965, its centennial year. For over 30 years he was a member of the West Virginia Baptist Executive Board. He served over 25 years as president of the West Virginia Baptist Education Society, which grants 50 scholarships annually to students preparing to enter the ministry. The Rev. Keeney was a founder of the St. Albans Ministerial Association and served as its president. He was a member of the St. Albans Rotary Club and also served as its president. He was chairman of the first committee to develop the Parchment Valley Conference Center. For many years, he was a volunteer chaplain at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Keeney is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa Knapp Keeney; daughter, Rebecca Palmer and her husband, John, of Charleston; son, Stanley Keeney and his wife, Martha, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; beloved grandchildren Morgan Griffith and her husband, Dave, of Charleston, Campbell Palmer and his wife, Suzanne, of Falls Church, Va., Mary Beth Keeney and her fiancé Chad Gunerra, and Brian Keeney of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and great grandchildren Amanda Jane and Michael Griffith, and Jack Palmer. His last surviving sister is Mrs. Wirt (Frankie) Harmon of Paris, Tenn.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 12, at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, with the Rev. Joe Hyde and the Rev. Cyril Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Highlawn Baptist Church.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Virginia Baptist Education Society, c/o Dr. Lawrence Hoptry, Corresponding Secretary, P.O. Box 248, Nitro, WV 25143; or to Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, WV 25177.

The family expresses thanks to Hospice for its care of Rev. Keeney, and to Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, for handling the arrangements.

Perhaps her given name IS Maggie and the enumerator speculated that this was a nickname and recorded Margurette.
