Name: | John Guinn | I'm
not
sure
yet just who this is, but since he's living two doors
from George
H. Guinn (above) and being perhaps a generation older,
I'm guessing
they're very closely related. |

I
believe that Homes Guinn is most likely Holmes Gwin, and I
have NO doubt
that his family and my family are related. He
certainly must be
related to George Holmes Gwin.
His
age places him in about the same generation as my
ggg-grandfather, John Gwin, so
in the outline
above, I have listed him for now in generation 23. |

Ison
has
to be yet another Isom/Isam/Isham, lending even greater
credence to
our families being related. [Our own farthest-back Isham Gwin is
my

John.] He appears
in Rutherford Twp. again in 1860
m. to Sarah J. (nee
unproven, but possibly Mosier, since a Mosier family
lives with them in
1860--a single father and two teenage girls). Oho! The Findagrave.com listing for this person reveals that he is none other than Capt. Isum Gwin |

I
think somebody made a mistake--either this is Jesse from
1850 or
Jeffrey from 1870 and the 1850 person is Jeffrey.
They have to be
the same person, regardless of the actual name.
I'm tending
toward Jesse, however, simply because there are so many
namesakes. |

absence
of
his wife strongly suggests that Isom is a widower, and
the age of
his youngest suggests Sarah has only been dead two years
or less.
Further, their son William, who appeared in 1860 as
being their
firstborn and only four months old, is not here either,
nor are other
children who would've been born between 1860 and
1867. I wonder
what in the world happened to them. The 1880
census does indeed
make it clear that Sarah J. died and that Isum remarried
Louisa (nee
unk.) around 1874. |

Hmmm.
Who is this? She is living in the home of George
and Margaret J. Trulove in the 28 Jun 1870 census of
Rutherford Twp., but the nearest PO is now listed as
Loogootee (in south Perry Twp.). Aha.
Looking at the ages of the family members, George is
39, and Margaret is only 25, while the oldest
child,John, is 15--too old for Margaret to have been his
mother. that means that Margaret is Georges second
wife, so this Salley must be Margaret's child by her
first marriage, which must have been to a Gwin. George
and Margaret must each have become widowed just before
the 1870 census and married each other |

wrote
this
in his own hand--he is the enumerator for this part of

his name, for he
wrote it not only here but on every page of his

also wrote "Homes" for his brother, not "Holmes".
Maybe he wasn't
